Yes, there is the expression, “He or she sold her soul.” This means they compromised their moral principles and vision of the good life for something that was life-deadening and destructive to others. But it is just an expression, using the term “soul” to stand in for our self-respect.
The story of Dr. Faustus trading his soul to the devil so he could never die is misinformed. It is a great fairy tale but not possible. Like the story of Rip Van Winkle sleeping for 20 years, it makes us think about life. However, life is not the fairy tale used to explain things to children. It is much more than that. To confine your soul to something that can be bought and sold is not seeing deeply enough into who you really are as an eternal Soul.
