Why have concentration, discipline, harmony, and clarity of mind not been as big of a thing in Western philosophy as it has been in Eastern?

3/29/2020

Western Philosophy, with some exceptions, is a temple to the rational mind. Reasoning and figuring out why things are the way they are, are the main focus. For example, the Philosopher Kant, formulated reasons for why we need to behave altruistically towards others. Even Descartes, with his, “I think, therefore I am,” emphasizes the rational mind. He does not say: “I feel therefore I am,” or “I witness, therefore I am.”

Eastern philosophy is more concerned with going within to find who we are as an Eternal reflection of cosmic consciousness. To do this, we must bypass the rational mind and forget about the “why’s” of things. They are the way they are and no matter how bright we are, we will never get to the bottom of it all—but Who and What is it that wants to understand?

To find out who we are, behind the labels, masks, and conditioning, we must not be distracted by the constant stream of thoughts that swirl through the mind. It takes discipline to rise above this whirlpool. It takes training to recognize the tricks of the mind. This is what Eastern philosophy aims to do. And it offers pointers to how to move away from the collector’s search for never-ending knowledge.

In general, Western philosophy is about knowing. Eastern philosophy is about finding our unity with an underlying structure of reality that never dies and never changes. It presumes we can never fully know, but we can still unite in peace with All That Is, because, at base, this is who we really are anyway. All knowledge passes away, but the Soul, in its union with the Universe, is eternal.

We can collect as much knowledge as we want, but it does not bring peace or comfort. But once we go within, with a truly quiet mind, all the harmony of the Universe is revealed.

Can a person be spiritually prideful and/or arrogant?

3/22/2020

It’s called “spiritual one-upmanship: “I have studied more scripture or meditated more than you have. I know more than you do spiritually. I meditated for 48 hours straight sitting in the lotus position—can you do that?” These are just a few attitudes of the spiritually prideful and arrogant people who think that spirituality is a contest to see who is better and who wins.

This is nothing more than the ego mind, the petty lower mind, trying once again to prove that it is right and everyone else is wrong. It sees spirituality as an acquisitive activity: “I will have the most books on the Upanishads,” “I will make the most pilgrimages and see the most gurus,” “I am purer than all these creatures around me.”

Arrogant and prideful people on the spiritual path see others as not evolved. They listen closely to catch people making unspiritual statements and confirm to themselves that they will win the prize while everyone else will be left in the dust. Everyone is on their own unique level of spiritual understanding. But the spiritually arrogant person doesn't allow for this. Therefore, they are missing the highest expression of spirituality, which is Love.

I'm afraid of getting specific with the law of attraction because I'm afraid there might be something better for me. Is it better to go specific or broad in manifesting?

3/22/2020

It is better to go specific, for if you go too broad it does not show enough committed intention. I am not saying that you will manifest the exact thing you passionately keep in mind. But if you don’t know what you want or are too general, you are not putting out enough energy to attract it.

In the case of the Law of Attraction, there is also the Law of Deliberate Intention. This is where you outline in detail what it is that you want to fulfill your life this time around. It may change, so mercifully, there is a gap between your ideation and the manifestation. This leeway allows us to fine-tune what we really want for our happiness and peace.

Then, we must acknowledge the Law of Allowing, and let the Universe bring to us what we desire. So its, deliberately intend, then attract, and then allow it to manifest in its own way and in its own time.

I notice in your question that you use the words “I am afraid” twice. Fear is also a vibration and all it can attract is more fear, as like attracts like. Don’t be afraid of the Law of Attraction. It’s not about getting as many goodies for yourself in the shortest amount of time and hoping they are the right ones. Those things don’t last anyway. There is nothing better out there in the future for you unless you come to peace with the present.

Does past life regression prove reincarnation, and are the results always accurate?

3/22/2020

Past life regression is not a proof but more of a journey of discovery. During regressions, people may get a sense of certain patterns of past lives that influence the way they act and react in this lifetime.

It depends on the person. Some have visual images of themselves, others connect to feelings or perceptions. And for others, nothing happens during a regression and later it comes to them in floods or in brief revelations. But it is never about accuracy. It is more about an impression. Regression may not be accurate but it can be very useful.

For example, I once regressed an argumentative and hostile woman, who plagued those around her with her miserable temper and antagonism. Her employer asked me to regress her, out of desperation. She dropped into a deep trance, snoring. I thought I had lost her to sleep. Yet, when she came out of the regression she told me of many images that appeared to her of when she had been an abused slave in various countries.

She understood that she had been carrying these hidden memories in her subconscious. Once she saw them, she was able to understand her nasty ways and knew she was dragging past life misery into this life. She jumped up, hugged me with great joy, smiled continuously and ended up changing the way she treated people from that day on.

Her life changed. She attracted a mate and got married, had friends, treated people kindly, and was all around a happier person. So this is not proof of reincarnation but it is an effective way for people to understand themselves better and to uncover underlying issues. I have seen it many times. The joy of understanding that we are Eternal Souls paying a visit in the physical form is liberating. It can be attained through a good past life regression session.

Will my dog’s (Tyson) soul find me if I've moved or will his soul be lost? I'm taking his departure very hard.

When there is a Soul connection between beings, whether human or animal, that bond is eternal. When Tyson left the planet, he went from the physical plane to the non-physical plane. Just because he is no longer in the body does not mean that he is not with you always.

It doesn’t matter where you move, for in the non-physical, there is no time or space. He is connected to you through your inner heart. This is not your physical heart. This is the place where you feel love deeply.

It is very difficult to be without the physical presence of someone we love to be around. Someone who cares about us and whose well-being is our concern. Now you can still talk to Tyson. Look for a sign from him that he is still here for you. He will bring you consolation, just as he did when he was with you. All the qualities that Tyson represented for you are all still alive. Nothing can kill them.

None of our bodies last forever, but our Souls, who we are as eternal beings, have no birth and no death. That is the meaning of eternity: It always has been and always will be. So talk with Tyson and ask him to send you a message. Keep your connection with him and he will be with you always.

Why should we do what scares us? What reasons can you think of to justify pushing past our fears?

3/4/2020

Everyone feels fear. It is built into our physical systems. One of the first responses of a newborn baby is “the startle response.” It serves as a protective mechanism and triggers fight or flight. At one point in our evolution it was useful but now, like the appendix or tonsils, we do not need it to the extent we did. It has become a plague of overthinking that brings depression and loss of morale.

I am not talking about fear holding us back from doing dangerous and crazy things that scare us, such as jumping out of a skyscraper window on a dare. I am referring to the little voice in the head that stops us from fulfilling our potential because we are too scared to fail, get hurt, or look like a fool trying. The fear takes over ands somewhere we feel less of a person because we backed down.

Your mission in life may require you to speak in front of large groups and anxiety stops you. You would rather give up. It is then that you can realize that everyone feels fear about public speaking but they go ahead and do it anyway, in spite of their stage-fright. They find out they didn’t die from the experience and end up trusting themselves more. Next time is is easier. But if you quit just because you feel jittery, you will never fully realize your goals.

If you are a world class downhill skier, I am sure natural fear kicks in as you face the steep descent. But you know that this fear is an automatic response and you can get past it. Then, once you allow yourself to “feel the fear and do it anyway” (as Susan Jeffers said) a triumphant feeling replaces the fear. You can even use the fear as fuel for extra adrenaline to sharpen your skills.

Everything great that has ever been accomplished by people (and animals) was because they “felt the fear and did it anyway.” Otherwise, life is about cowering away in our shells, protecting ourselves from all kinds of imagined and real threats and never fully living free lives.

Can you explain your “I-Self” and “Me-self”?

3/1/2020

The I-Self precedes the “Me-self” and has always existed. It it what links us to Cosmic consciousness and indestructible peace.

The me-self comes along with this body when we incarnate as a human. It appears when we recognize that we want things, we are hungry, we want toys, we are bored, we need to survive at all costs. When we are given a name and discover who the me-self is, suffering begins. We are hurt, we feel neglected, we want someone else’s toys, we want all of Mommy’s attention, we want, want and want.

But when we rest in the I-Self, there is nothing to want. We are already complete. It is a state of peace, which the me-self can never attain. Yes, I say never. For the me-self is looking to the future to fulfill itself. It is always looking for the next thing that will make it happy. It cannot feel the present moment. It will quickly return to chewing over the past and hurling towards the future.

The I-self exists outside of time, which is a useful invention of the me-self for communication purposes and to “fix” the world. But anything that proceeds from the me-self is impermanent, as is the body from which it arises. Without the body, there wouldn’t be any “me” but the eternal I, the underlying structure of all that is, remains.
