Is there a definite undisputed factual interpretation of consciousness?
Consciousness works differently from the intellect. It is not like a problem-solving device or a spotlight that focusses on one aspect: the foreground. Consciousness takes the background, or the ground of our being, into account. This background is the Universe itself. Consciousness is being in tune with the Universe.
As the Universe is vast and extremely varied, consciousness reflects this as well. Factual proof or factual interpretations of consciousness are beside the point, in the sense that facts can be proven in a laboratory. But if I say I have consciousness, or awareness of the ground of by being, how can you prove this? It is my experience and it is my say-so.
That is why consciousness is so varied in its interpretations and understanding of what it actually is. If you have been there, been fully conscious, you know. No one can take that away from you. But you cannot put it under a microscope or see it through a telescope. It is not material, it is spiritual.
