They are also conscious about what kind of industries do they want to support. They do not want to encourage sweat shops, slave labor, or other oppressive work conditions. They do want to support industries that do no damage to people, animals, and the environment. They support businesses that give back or re-invest in sustaining the beauty and health of this world.
This is a spiritual approach because it is not just about consuming for ourselves without thinking about the long-term consequences for others with whom we share this life. We have been gifted with this amazing planet and it is up to us to respect it and nurture it, not to grab as much for ourselves as we can before we die.
Arrogance, fear, and the ego drive us to buy, buy, buy to fill the hole that spiritual emptiness leaves. Conscious consumers understand that the ego mind will always want more, more, and more. They step back and ask if they really need one more thing. They know they will not be able to take any of it with them when they cross over to the Other Side.
