The materialistic world can vanish in an instant. It can burn down, be stolen, decay, pass away, and cause a great deal of unhappiness while we are pursuing it.
I remember a story Jackie Gleason told. He had grown up a very poor child and his whole life he wanted a billiards table. After years of struggling, he was able to afford this material treat for himself. He bought it and after about a week, it didn’t give him the thrill he had been dreaming of all those years. It was just another thing in his house.
But the Spirit never gets old. It never dies. It never disappoints. Nothing can destroy it. Therefore, it is always best to live in the world of Spirit. Then material things can come to you too, you just don’t think they will be what really brings you peace, joy, and fulfillment in your life.
