If you look at the Ten Commandments, you will see that they are mostly a set of moral values. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
These are values that keep society functioning safely. They came in the form of The Word of God. There were consequences for not following them. Religions set out the forms of punishment, whether it is hell or being visited by the wrath of God while we are alive for not obeying these moral principles.
Fear of God may keep some people on the moral path because of the religion they were brought up in. With spirituality, on the other hand, we stay on the moral path because hurting others and ourseles does not feel good, it does not bring peace. When we are attuned with our Souls, we behave ethically not because we are following a religion, but because it goes against our very being to be unethical.
People who don’t belong to a religion can still be very moral, based on how much they want to live the good life. It feels good to be kind, to give to others, to forgive. And this has nothing to do with religion.
