Morality isn’t a scam or a swindle, if you define it as not hurting yourself or others. It is just very difficult for many people to live up to. That is why the news is full of people who have done immoral things from stealing and assault to murder. People set out to be “good” and then their ego-mind, with all its dysfunctions takes over and they think they can get ahead by stomping all over others.
Ultimately, when they come to their life’s end, the see that their immorality has brought them some amazingly bad karma and they have not gotten ahead at all.
If you define morality as relating to love and matters of reproduction, it can be a scam. When religions preach love and then persecute people of different love orientations, that is hypocrisy and a fraud. If religions preach love and then think it is OK to slaughter people who don’t go along with their belief systems, the are indeed fraudulent.
