It is a state of being because it takes place in the Now and is not something to be put off until a future date. Therefore, I shy away from the concept of process. Process implies inputs, outputs, and an end result within a timeframe. As in, “After I do such and such meditation for x number of years, I will be enlightened.”
The enlightened state is being truly present in the here and now and knowing it, being conscious of it, and being in love with it. It is not a project that needs to be managed.
Yet, like the Universe itself, enlightenment continually evolves and expands. Growth is one of the driving forces of the entire cosmos. And so, enlightened beings are constantly amazed at the manifold glories of the Spirit that are continually revealed when they are present and not running around in frantic desperation seeking enlightenment as if it were something outside themselves.
Enlightenment is, then, both being-ness and and a constantly growing awareness of the amazing complexity within the Universe. Far from being a stagnant state, it is exhilarating in its expansiveness.
