Once the mind has calmed down and all the little thoughts don’t grab our attention, then we can go into contemplation meditation. This is when we can ask the universe to bring us answers to questions and issues that are important to our inner growth in our discovery as spiritual beings. Concentration meditation uses objects or points of sound to quiet the mind and to help it focus it on one thing. Concentrating on the flame of a candle or on the sound of a holy mantra forces the mind to calm down and keep one thing in our awareness. We cannot hold more than one thought in our mind at a time, so we replace all the different thoughts that come and go with just the candle flame or the sound “Om.”
