Some people say there is no such thing as progress. We are only kidding ourselves if we think that any solution is progress. For example, large highway systems allow for faster mobility than ever. That looks like progress until we see the acres of farmland and natural habitat that are paved over. We see the huge traffic jams, the air pollution, and the traffic accidents.
From one point of view something can look like progress and then be seen as the cause of another problem. Drugs that alleviated pain are now the cause of distress and pain as more and more become addicted to them. I am sure you can think of your own examples of what looked like progress and ended up being deadly in a way.
But no matter what, Life will tell you if you are on the right track. Are you happy and fulfilled? Then you are making progress. Do you feel stifled and miserable? You are not making progress. Progress in and of itself is of little value. Cancer makes progress yet nobody wants it. A serial killer can make progress in the number of bodies he amasses.
So making progress, in and of itself, is not enough. The goal of the progress must be worthy of the effort and produce happy, not painful results. In the world of the Spirit the whole idea of progress doesn’t exist. It all is because it must be that way and no other way. It is not on its way to something. It already is.
