It is only our ego minds that think that our self is separate from reality “out there.” We are conditioned at birth to see ourselves as separate entities, starting with our individual names. Then we learn what our culture programs into us. We think this is who we are and we are individuals in a hostile, frightening universe.
But if we look into it deeply, we see that we are composed of the same materials as the stars and everything on this planet. Our underlying chemical structures have the same basis (hydrogen, oxygen, etc.). We exist in our environment the way fish do in the sea. They don’t know anything but the sea and coexist with it.
We are so accustomed to our environment, we don’t even see how we interact with it. Every breath we take brings in reality “out there.” And in turn, we impact this reality. It is a constant transaction that our ego structures prevent us from seeing.
