ESP (Extra Sensory Perception,) or 6th Sense
The best documented cases and stories of ESP come from not only accounts of twins that one would expect, but incredibly pets too, which were psychically connected to their owners.
Twins Separated at Birth
The story of Jim Lewis and Jim Springer
From the Smithsonian, 1980 Jim Lewis and Jim Springer first met February 9, 1979, after 39 years of being separated. They met after being given up by their mother and separately adopted as 1-month-olds.They discovered astonishing similarities in their lives and behavior.
Both had been:
- Adopted by separate families in Ohio and had grown up within 45 miles of each other
- Named James by their adoptive parents
- Married twice; first to women named Linda and second to women named Betty
- Children, including sons named James Allan
- At one time owned dogs named Toy
- Abilities in mechanical drawing and carpentry
Dr. Thomas Bouchard of University of Minnesota studied the personalities and attitudes of the twin Jims, and the resulting similarities were again astonishing. In one test which measured personality variables (tolerance, conformity, flexibility), the twins' scores were so close that they approximated the totals of one person taking the test twice. Brain wave tests produced skyline-like graphs looking like 2 views of the same city. Intelligence tests, mental abilities, gestures, voice tones, likes and dislikes, were similar as well. So were medical histories: Both had:
- High blood pressure
- Experienced what they thought were heart attacks,
- Undergone vasectomies
- Suffered from migraine headaches. They even used the same words to describe these headaches.
- Chain-smoked
- Liked beer
- Had woodworking workshops in their garages
- Drove Chevys
- Had served as Sheriff's deputies in nearby Ohio counties
- Vacationed on the same beach in the Florida Gulf Coast
- Lived in the only house on their block.
Oskar and Jack
Separated from his twin six months after their birth in Trinidad, Oskar was brought up Catholic in Germany and joined the Hitler Youth. Jack stayed behind in the Caribbean, was raised a Jew and lived for a time in Israel. Yet despite the stark contrast of their lives, when the twins were reunited in their fifth decade they had similar speech and thought patterns, similar gaits, a taste for spicy foods and common peculiarities such as flushing the toilet before they used it.
Daphne and Barbara
Daphne Goodship and Barbara Herbert first met when they were 40. Debbie was raised Jewish and Sharon was raised Catholic. They:
- Had a miscarriage the same year, followed by two boys and a girl in that order
- Cooked the same meal from the same recipe book on the same day, without knowing it
- Laugh and fold their arms the same way
Cats Who Find Their Way Home
There have been numerous stories of cats who have found their way home over long distances. This is an example of the psychic connections cats have with their owners. Probably the most amazing story of this kind involves, Howie, a purebred Persian whose owners living in Australia were going on an oversees vacation and left Howie with their parents who lived 1000 miles away from their home in Adelaide. Upon their return, the distraught owners had learned that their beloved cat had escaped. One year and 1000 miles later a scraggly Howie appeared at the owners' home. Howie had crossed rivers, two deserts, and the dangerous Australian outback. Howie was dirty, hungry and had a wounded paw but made a recovery from an incredible journey.
Dogs and ESP
One of the most popular cases involves a Collie named Bob. Bobs adventure started out as a vacation motor trip from Oregon to the East Coast. On the way back to Oregon, Bob’s family realized that their beloved pet was missing.
After an unsuccessful search for Bob, the heartbroken family drove back to Oregon approximately 2,500 miles. Four months later, he presented himself at the door of his home in Oregon paw outstretched.
Another inspiring case is that of a mixed-breed dog named Henry. Henry was left with friends in Illinois when his family moved to Michigan. Six weeks later, Henry excitedly greeted his family on a street corner of their new town in Michigan.
How Do These Powers Work?
Dr. Rupert Sheldrake's main theory on how animals have these powers is Morphic Fields. "Morphic fields are involved in self-organizing systems which include cells, animals, and groups of organisms, which include pets and their owners. When the owner forms a bond with the pet, or the pet forms a bond with their owner, I think there is a field that connects them," said Dr. Sheldrake. He says the fact that we can witness schools of fish or flocks of birds turning in the same direction simultaneously is evidence of these morphic fields, as well as insects behaving in coordination. Dr. Sheldrake believes these fields connect living things, whether of the same species or different species, which have close connections to one another across distances, whether large or small.

Palm Reading (Palmistry)
- The four main lines that dominate the palm are the heart, head, fate, and life lines. These lines are used in most types of palmistry and will determine the person's past, present and future.
- Start with the right hand. This one is usually the dominant hand and tells more about the personality than the left hand.
- Look for the heart line. This is the one that is the highest on the palm. It is a horizontal line that can slope upward from the left edge of the palm, or it may go start across from the left edge toward the right. The way the line looks determines how your love life will fare. If the line has lots of smaller lines running through it, your love life will be stormy. If the heart line curves, it is expressive of your feelings. If it is a very short line, you are not very interested in romantic relationships.
- Go to the head line next. This is the horizontal line below the heart line. It usually starts at the right edge of the palm and cuts across the center of the palm. This line represents what your general personality is like. A short head line means you are not cerebral and instead enjoy physical things. A curvy line means you are creative. A deep line means you are a deep thinker. If there are a lot of crosses going through this line, you have made many big decisions.
- Read the life line next. This line is located toward the right side of the right palm. It often starts near the top part of the thumb and then curves downward. The line is read by some as an indicator of the length of your life, but most palmistry traditions read it as an indicator of their general life force. A line that is short means you are easily manipulated. A line that is long means you have a high level of vitality. A curvy line means you have a lot of energy. A line that has a circle on it means that you have been injured. If there has not yet been a major injury, that injury is in your future.
- Find the fate line. This line usually starts at the bottom of the palm and goes upward through the center of the palm. For some people, it will start at the left side of the bottom of the palm. The line shows how much fate will affect your life. A deep fate line means the influence of fate will be strong. If the line crosses your life line, it means that you will have a lot of support from others. If the line has a lot of breaks in ityou will have many influences on them from outside sources.
